The item from 1857 is an autograph letter signed by George Sand to Charles Edmond. The material from 1875 consists of an autograph ms. of George Sand's playlet "La laitière et le pot au lait (saynète)." The file also includes an undated clipping from Feuilleton du temps containing a printed version of the playlet; a 2.25x3.75-in. sepia-toned portrait photograph of Sand, dated 20 September 1875; and a letter dated 30 November 1875 from "Elz" [?] to W. H. Huntington. The letter is written on the stationery of the Conseil Municipal de Paris and may have enclosed the playlet and clipping.
